Plantar Fasciitis

As a chiropractor with specialized training from Australia, rooted in the osteopathic model, I've dedicated my career to helping people regain mobility and live pain-free. One of the most debilitating conditions I encounter is plantar fasciitis—a sharp, stabbing heel pain that can turn every step into agony. If you're suffering from this, you're not alone. Millions experience it, but for our brave men and women in the United States Military, the stakes are even higher. Long hours on your feet, heavy gear, rugged terrain, and the demands of deployment amplify the stress on your arches, making recovery essential not just for comfort, but for mission readiness.

In this post, I'll share my unique approach to treating plantar fasciitis, drawn from my own painful experience and years of successful patient outcomes. Unlike conventional methods that often focus solely on symptom relief, my technique addresses the root cause, offering lasting relief. Whether you're a civilian dealing with daily discomfort or a service member pushing through deployments, there's hope—and a path forward.

Understanding Plantar Fasciitis: Beyond the Surface Pain

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia—a thick band of tissue running along the bottom of your foot—becomes inflamed and irritated. Traditional views attribute it to overuse, poor footwear, or tight calves, leading to treatments like rest, ice, stretching, or injections. While these can provide temporary ease, they often fail to prevent recurrence because they don't tackle the underlying issue.

From my training and clinical experience, the true culprit is the collapse of your foot's arches: the transverse (across the midfoot) and longitudinal (along the length of the foot). When these arches flatten—due to repetitive stress, biomechanical imbalances, or even subtle misalignments—the entire structure of your foot is compromised. This puts immense strain on the plantar fascia and surrounding soft tissues, turning minor irritations into chronic pain.

For military personnel, this is exacerbated by the rigors of service. Carrying heavy packs, marching for miles, or navigating uneven ground in combat boots can accelerate arch collapse, leading to a faster onset and more severe symptoms. I've treated veterans and active-duty members who describe it as a "constant knife in the heel," impacting not just physical performance but also mental resilience.

My Journey: From Personal Pain to Professional Expertise

I know this pain intimately. Years ago, I battled severe plantar fasciitis myself. As someone trained in Australia under an osteopathic chiropractic model, I was equipped with a holistic perspective that emphasizes restoring the normal range of motion to every joint in the body—including the often-overlooked bones of the feet. Unlike many American chiropractic programs, my education focused on the interconnectedness of the skeletal system, teaching me to view the foot as a dynamic foundation rather than an isolated part.

Drawing on this foundation, I applied targeted adjustments to realign my foot's bones, rebuilding the arches and relieving the stress on my plantar fascia. The results were transformative: full recovery without surgery or ongoing dependency on orthotics. This personal success inspired me to refine my method for patients, and I've since helped countless individuals reclaim their mobility.

My Unique Treatment Approach: Restoring Structure for Lasting Relief

What sets my practice apart is a comprehensive, two-phase strategy that goes beyond masking symptoms:

1.    Structural Restoration: We start by correcting the juxtaposition of the foot's 26 bones and 33 joints. Using gentle, precise manual adjustments and mobilizations, I restore the transverse and longitudinal arches. This realigns the foot's architecture, distributing weight evenly and eliminating the excessive pull on the plantar fascia. For military patients, this is crucial—it rebuilds resilience against the high-impact demands of your duties.

2.    Soft Tissue Healing: Once the foundation is solid, we address the inflammation and injury in the fascia and muscles. Techniques such as myofascial release, targeted massage, and supportive therapies promote healing, reduce inflammation and swelling, and strengthen the foot's intrinsic muscles. This phase ensures not just pain relief but also prevention of future flare-ups.

Patients often report significant improvement after just a few sessions, with many achieving full resolution in weeks rather than months to years. One veteran shared, "After years of limping through physical training and my daily work duties, Dr. Campbell's adjustments got me back on my feet—literally ready for anything."

Why This Matters for Our Military Heroes

Service members endure extraordinary physical demands, and foot health is non-negotiable. Plantar fasciitis can sideline you from training, deployments, or even daily life post-service. My approach is tailored to your needs: quick, non-invasive, and focused on durability. By restoring your foot's natural mechanics, we help you maintain peak performance and avoid the cycle of reinjury.

If you're in the military or a veteran, know that I honor your service with specialized care that respects your time and resilience. Tricare does not cover my chiropractic services; however, I have highly discounted fees, making it accessible for those who've given so much.
